The Life of Oyasama, Foundress of Tenrikyō (稿本天理教教祖伝)

The Life of Oyasama, Foundress of Tenrikyō (稿本天理教教祖伝) is the officially sanctioned biography of religion foundress Nakayama Miki, also known by followers as Oyasama. This book is commonly referred to as the "manuscript edition" due to the 「稿本」in the title, which implies that the biography may continue to be revised and edited in the future as more information may eventually come to light about Oyasama.

Efforts to compile a biography for Oyasama began not long after her death in 1887. Various manuscripts were created in the first twenty years or so after her death—most notably of which being the katakana and hiragana versions that would be used as a framework for all other attempts—but an "official" biography would not be published until 1956. Even still, this official version is still regarded as a manuscript, making it possible further revisions and edits may be made as more information may come to light about Oyasama's life.

This text is one of the three supplemental texts to the Tenrikyō scriptures, along with Anecdotes of Oyasama, the Foundress of Tenrikyō (稿本天理教教祖伝逸話篇) and Anecdotes of Oyasama, the Foundress of Tenrikyō (稿本天理教教祖伝逸話篇). This and other Tenrikyō texts can be found for free on the Tenrikyō Resource Wiki.
